Visions that come with dreaming big are like mountains. You can see the big picture and even to the other side from where you are standing. You can see the beautiful valley, the river, and the trees. You can even see the contour of the land. In your imagination, you take in the smell of the fresh air and the breeze gently tousling your hair. Enter gratitude.
No matter where you are in your life, the very act of gratitude places you squarely in the flow of your wildest imagination because your dreams represent your deepest desire—and your desire is closest to your heart. Gratitude for even allowing yourself to go there is what propels you toward the fulfillment of your heart’s desire and the fulfillment of that big vision.
Gratitude is the very essence of love personified. It’s the trigger that sets your dreams into motion and the desired support that allows for their realization of all that you are dreaming into your life. The practice of gratitude is one of celebration. It tells the universe that you understand the feeling and the knowing of love beyond measure is at work in your life. It brings the spiral of creation into the higher octave of allowing for a greater degree of wonderment and joyousness. When you express gratitude you are acknowledging the universal flow that is always working for you and in support of you.
Light begets more light, and love personified is the juice that turns your passion for life on and amps it up. The beauty of staying connected to source this way is that you can start wherever you are. Especially when you are feeling down, invoking gratitude for life itself brings you back up. If you are feeling particularly sad or dissatisfied, underappreciated or unsupported, by dropping into the stillness of your heart and remembering your true source, you will be doing yourself and every one else around you a favor. The very act of deeply loving and honoring your life on the planet opens your heart. Even if it’s just a crack. That small opening today will lead to a bigger one tomorrow, and the day after that. Before you know it, you are finding yourself in the flow of joy.
Sometimes it’s in those darkest hours we can look to nature to find gratitude within us. Nature offers an infinite supply of things to be grateful for. I have worked with people who have been so traumatized by life that they have no touchstone on what it means to be joyful let alone the compulsion to express gratitude. That’s when we begin with the breath then move to the metaphor of the sun or imagine a flower, water, the river or a pond, or we focus on a frog, rabbit or butterfly. All aspects of nature are animated by the nature Spirits and they love to delight and surprise us if we are even remotely willing to allow for the opening.
If you find yourself in a state of doom and gloom, try immersing yourself in nature. Allow the trees to talk to you. Hold them near and dear. They embody the consciousness and the history of the planet. Tap into that wisdom and ask for their help in opening your heart. Look to the sunshine and feel blessed by the warmth of the rays shining down upon you. It’s those rays that bring life giving force to the planet. If you can allow yourself to be supported by nature, and express gratitude then you can heal and transform.
Get into the habit of freely expressing gratitude by smiling and laughing your way through life. There is humor in the divine. Lend a hand or deliver a good deed to another as your heart calls you to do so. The practice of gratitude offers you an opportunity to experience joyful reconnection to a more compassionate humanity and the feedback loop will find you in the flow of spontaneous creation.
